The B.Tech programme in Civil Engineering at PRIT provides students with an advanced, four-year undergraduate education that builds on foundational concepts and prepares graduates for professional engineering practice, research and higher studies. Civil engineering is a profession that shapes the built environment — from roads, bridges and dams to buildings, water systems and urban infrastructure.

The department is equipped with modern laboratories, experienced faculty and strong industry linkages. The B.Tech programme covers advanced topics including structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, environmental engineering, hydraulics, construction management and computer-aided design. Students undertake design projects, field surveys and industrial internships to gain practical exposure.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)
  1. Graduates will demonstrate technical competence in core civil engineering domains including structural, geotechnical, environmental and transportation engineering.
  2. Graduates will be able to apply engineering principles to design, analyse and execute civil engineering projects.
  3. Graduates will exhibit professional ethics, communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  4. Graduates will pursue higher education or professional careers and adapt to the evolving engineering landscape.
Career Opportunities

B.Tech Civil Engineering graduates are employed in construction companies, government departments (PWD, NHAI, CPWD), real estate, infrastructure firms, urban development authorities, railways, and defence. Roles include Site Engineer, Structural Engineer, Project Manager, Design Engineer and Estimator. Graduates may also pursue M.Tech, MBA (Construction Management) or appear for GATE/Civil Services examinations.

Facilities

The department is well equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and modern infrastructure to support the B.Tech curriculum.

Surveying Lab

Equipped with Total Station, Auto Level, GNSS equipment, Theodolites, plain table surveying instruments and digital measuring tools. Students learn modern surveying techniques and geo-spatial data collection.

Concrete & Building Materials Lab

Provides facilities for testing cement, aggregates and concrete mixes. Equipment includes Compression Testing Machine, Vee-Bee consistometer, Vicat apparatus, slump cone, rebound hammer and tensile strength tester.

Geo-technical Engineering Lab

Covers soil testing including CBR, liquid limit, plastic limit, direct shear, proctor compaction, permeability and core cutter tests. Used for foundation design and ground improvement studies.

Hydraulics & Fluid Mechanics Lab

Features Bernoulli's theorem apparatus, venturimeter, pipe friction apparatus, centrifugal pump, Pelton wheel and Francis turbine test rigs. Provides practical understanding of fluid behaviour in engineering systems.

Transportation Engineering Lab

Equipped for bituminous material testing including ductility, penetration, softening point, impact value and Los Angeles abrasion tests. Supports highway design and pavement analysis coursework.

CAD & Structural Analysis Lab

Computer lab with AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, REVIT and GIS software for structural design, building information modelling and spatial analysis. Supports design projects and final-year thesis work.
