The B.Tech programme in Mechanical Engineering at PRIT is a comprehensive four-year undergraduate degree that provides students with in-depth knowledge of mechanics, thermodynamics, manufacturing, design and materials science. Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines, encompassing everything from precision machine components to large-scale power generation systems and cutting-edge robotics.
The department is equipped with modern workshops, well-maintained laboratories and simulation facilities. Students gain practical exposure through hands-on lab work, industrial visits, internships and project work. The curriculum is regularly updated to reflect current industry standards and emerging technologies such as CAD/CAM, CNC machining, FEA, additive manufacturing and Industry 4.0 concepts.

Career Opportunities
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering graduates are employed across aerospace, automotive, steel, power, oil & gas, manufacturing, HVAC and defence sectors. Key employers include TATA Steel, Jindal Steel, BHEL, NTPC, ISRO, Indian Railways, L&T and leading automotive OEMs. Roles include Design Engineer, Production Engineer, Project Manager, Quality Engineer and R&D Engineer. Graduates can also appear for GATE, IES and state engineering service examinations, or pursue M.Tech/MBA.

Our B.Tech programme is built on a strong academic foundation combined with hands-on practical exposure. The curriculum spans core subjects in mechanics, thermodynamics and materials, as well as advanced topics in robotics, CAD/CAM, finite element analysis and sustainable manufacturing.

Facilities
The department is equipped with modern, well-maintained laboratories and workshops that support the full B.Tech Mechanical Engineering curriculum.
Thermal Engineering Lab
Equipped with petrol and diesel engine test rigs, compressor test rigs, refrigeration and air-conditioning test rigs. Provides practical understanding of thermodynamic cycles, engine performance, heat transfer and refrigeration systems.
Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulics Lab
Features Bernoulli's apparatus, venturimeter, centrifugal and reciprocating pump test rigs, Pelton wheel and Francis turbine. Develops practical skills in fluid flow analysis, pump characteristics and turbomachinery.
Material Testing Lab
Equipped with Universal Testing Machine, torsion testing machine, Brinell and Rockwell hardness testers, and Izod/Charpy impact testing machines. Covers tensile, compressive, shear and fatigue behaviour of engineering materials.
Theory of Machines & Dynamics Lab
Contains gear trains, cam-follower mechanisms, governors, gyroscopes, flywheel and balancing apparatus. Helps students understand kinematics and dynamics of machinery, vibration analysis and mechanical power transmission.
Manufacturing & Workshop Lab
Covers lathe, milling, drilling, grinding and shaping machine operations along with welding, fitting, sheet metal and casting processes. Provides hands-on manufacturing skills aligned with industrial practices and safety standards.
CAD / CAM & CNC Lab
Equipped with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA and ANSYS workstations, plus a CNC lathe machine. Students perform 3D modelling, FEA simulations, CNC programming (G & M codes) and process planning for modern manufacturing.
Metrology & Quality Control Lab
Features precision measuring instruments including vernier callipers, micrometers, slip gauges, sine bars, profile projectors and coordinate measuring equipment. Covers measurement techniques, tolerances, surface finish analysis and quality standards.
Applied Mechanics Lab
Includes screw jack, worm and worm wheel apparatus, simply supported beam models, Lami's theorem model and jib crane apparatus. Provides practical verification of fundamental laws of engineering mechanics and statics.
