The B.Tech programme in Electrical Engineering at PRIT offers a rigorous four-year undergraduate education that equips students with advanced knowledge of electrical systems, power engineering, electronics, control systems and emerging areas such as smart grids, renewable energy and electric vehicles. Electrical engineers are the architects of the modern energy infrastructure that powers homes, industries and cities.

The department is backed by well-equipped laboratories, a dedicated faculty team with academic and industry expertise, and strong connections with power sector organisations, PSUs and manufacturing industries. Students gain hands-on experience through lab work, industrial visits, internships and capstone projects throughout the programme.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

  4. Graduates will be equipped for employment in the electrical industry, higher studies or entrepreneurship.
Career Opportunities

B.Tech Electrical Engineering graduates are employed in power generation and distribution companies, PSUs (NTPC, BHEL, PGCIL, DVC), railways, defence, manufacturing industries and IT companies. Roles include Electrical Engineer, Power Systems Engineer, Control Engineer, Project Engineer and Energy Auditor. Graduates can also pursue M.Tech, MBA or appear for GATE, IES and state engineering service examinations.

Facilities

The department is equipped with modern, well-maintained laboratories that support the full B.Tech Electrical Engineering curriculum.

Electrical Machines Lab

Equipped with AC and DC motors and generators (0.5KW–7KW) for performance characteristic studies. Includes manual and automatic motor starters, electrical loading rigs (resistive, inductive, capacitive) and dismantled machines for constructional study.

Power Electronics Lab

Features thyristor and MOSFET-based circuits, rectifiers, inverters, choppers and PWM controllers. Students design and test power conversion circuits used in industrial drives, UPS and renewable energy systems.

Control Systems Lab

Covers analysis and design of open-loop and closed-loop control systems. Equipment includes PID controller kits, DC servo systems, stepper motor drives and MATLAB/Simulink workstations for simulation and design verification.

Measurement & Instrumentation Lab

Provides experimental set-ups for transducers (LVDT, RTD, thermocouple, strain gauge, LDR), DC potentiometer, Kelvin Double Bridge, energy meters and transformer oil testing for BDV measurement.

Electrical Workshop & Circuit Lab

Students practise fabrication of house wiring circuits, motor and transformer coil winding, and appliance repair. Lab includes all types of electrical tools, accessories and a wiring demonstration panel for safety training.

Simulation & CAD Lab

Equipped with MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP and AutoCAD Electrical for power system simulation, load flow analysis, electrical schematic drawing and project design. Supports final-year dissertation and design projects.
